In 1935 Bojangles started as a guesthouse offering accommodation and simple but warm hospitality. Over the years the site housed the Teapot Inn (1956 - 1967) and the Centre Restaurant (1967 - 1978). It was after this that the Central Australian icon, Bojangles, began. It inherited its name from Mr Bojangles - the man who dances.
Early 1998 saw a change of ownership and a new strong partnership with network marketing being the key to success. The partnership consists of Avril and Chris Vaughan. This has brought about the combination of tourism, hospitality and entertainment to provide a complete Central Australian experience.
An expansion to the Saloon in late 1999 has increased Bojangles ability to cater for larger tour groups with seating capacity up to 120 guests on Ghan railway sleeper bench tables and cowhide seats.
The Dining room seats 70 guests and provides full a la carte service with some of Australia's finest wines available.
Bojangles provides true Territory Tucker such as Camel, Crocodile, Kangaroo, Emu and Barramundi. For the serious meat lovers there are six steaks available including "The Big Bugger", a 600gm T-Bone steak and Bo's famous Beef Ribs. The full range of a la carte meals are available in the Saloon and the dining room with additional simple fare menu in the Saloon for light snacks such as Nachos and Steak Sandwiches. If this all sounds a little bit "Meaty" don't worry as many dishes have been provided for fish and chicken lovers as well as vegetarians and our kitchen will cook to request for any special dietary requirements.
The venue has been decorated with an historical theme. A life-size replica of Ned Kelly guards the front bat wing Saloon doors. Eighteenth century memorabilia such as guns, motorbikes, cars, pioneering artifacts and photos line the walls. "Reggie", the Wedge-Tailed Eagle is suspended with wings spread over the Jarrah recycled Ghan railway sleeper bar. Jangles, the Cape York carpet python measures 8 feet long and is a permanent live attraction in the bar.
To complement the atmosphere, good food and great service, Bojangles broadcasts nightly live via Satellite and the World Wide Web. Bojangles Saloon & Dining Room has won the 2004, 2002 and 2001 Northern Territory Brolga Award for Tourism Excellence - Best Tourism Restaurant along with two prestigious 2001 Australian Hotel Association awards - Best Hotel Restaurant in the NT, Best Hotel Bar Presentation and in 2002 winner of the AHA Best Hotel Bistro. Winner of the 2001 Gold Plate Award, national finalist 2001 for Australian Hotel Association - Best Restaurant and Best Hotel Bar Presentation, national finalist for the Australia Tourism Awards 2001 and Mietta's eating and drinking in Australia National Top 100 Awards for 2001 and 2002.
